CCD Curriculum 2005, CCD Activity Calendar 2005
CCD Registration & Scheduling 2005

Anytime people come together to learn about their faith, something very beautiful begins to take place. This growing experience is not just for children; it's meant for all of us, and it's a life-long process.

Children will learn that CCD is not just about preparing for sacraments when they see that other members of their family are also learning about their faith. For this reason, we encourage parents and older siblings to participate in their own activities that will help them learn more about and grow in their faith. The following courses are available for adults (18 or older): Real Life , RCIA , Lay Formation Program

Overview of CCD Community Program:

Curriculum
The curriculum is solidly aligned with the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and it lays our very clearly what our young people should be learning at each grade level. This enables our catechists to have immediately available background information needed to answer the variety of questions that come up during discussions of the lesson.

Scripture-based
St. Jerome tells us, "Ignorance of the Bible is ignorance of Christ." So we are making it a priority to get age-appropriate Bibles into the hands of all our students, so that they can begin early to know Jesus through the study of Scripture.

  • K-3rd Grade - the New Catholic Picture Bible
  • 4th-6th Grade - My First Catholic Bible
  • 7th-H.S. - Fireside Catholic Youth Bible

In Tune with the seasons of the Liturgical year

Each student will be provided with a MagnifiKids! mini-missalette on a weekly basis, that they may prepare to hear and understand the Sunday Mass readings. At least four times a school year, the communities wil gather to celebrate Mass together, and will experience firsthand with their "class" a variety of liturgical seasons.

Additionally, we will provide other opportinities for liturgical celebrations, such as a Lenten reconcilitation Service and Stations of the Cross.

Structured to address different learning styles

Catechists are trained to use a variety of approaches to get the point of the lessons across, and to give students plenty of opportunities to share what they've learned with others. These strategies, combined with a wide variety of activities, hands-on as well as paper-pencil tasks will help keep the students excited about what they are doing. And we know they learn best when they are excited!

Geared toward building up of the domestic church

We are encouraging our parents and families to pursue an increased knowledge of their faith, and we are working at building these families into a community, the Body of Christ.
